Power Over-dose

I know that a lot of people from Taylor's are coming UniSA next month.. Here are some suggestion for you all first of all.

1) Money
1.1 Make sure how much cash you need when lands
1.2 Make sure you have enough of those with a little more spare and that's all
1.3 Don't carry too much cash with you, it's dangerous X_X

2) Banks
2.1 Communicate with your Malaysia bank and get enough details about TT processes
2.2 First thing to do on arrival (after get to your home), go grab an Australia bank account
2.3 Banks
- NAB
- Westpac
- ANZ
- etc.

3) TT
3.1 What you need for TT
- Of course, your bank account no.
- Swift code
- bank address
3.2 TT charges
- this is unavoidable, so don't think about how much you can cut down on it
3.3 It will definitely takes 2-3days just like your cheque clearing
3.4 Confirm with your Malaysia bank how they charge for it, since they will charge it AGAIN on receival
3.5 I have no idea what each bank charges on the money you receive

4) Cellphones
If you're not planning to get iPhone/blackberry, don't bother to bring your own cell and uses pre-paids, the rates are the same and they have this cap thingy

4.1 Mobile service providers
- Telstra : www.telstra.com.au
- Optus : www.optus.com.au
- Vodafone : www.vodafone.com.au
- 3 : www.three.com.au
- virgin mobile : www.virginmobile.com.au
- etc.

4.2 Cap
They have this cap thing here, for example:
Vodafone's $29 cap you get $150 calling credit -
Q: Here's the question people always ask, what the hell is this 29 cap 150 credit means? does it means 150 is the max i can call while 29 is the actual credit?

A: 29 cap means, you pays 29 per month just like your maxis or digi prepaid which requires you to pay 30/month for connection.
$150 credit means you really get $150 of credit when you reload $29. This is because the call rates here isn't RM0.01/sms or RM0.15/minutes Maxis to Maxis

4.3 iPhone 3G[S]
I know alot of ppl is really interested in this and let me tell you this
- Telstra : rates too high
- vodafone : They refuse to sell to students with no TFN and Employer's authorisation
means u need to get ur employer's signature or some income statements to prove you have income only they sell you that on contract. if u buy RRP den there's no problem with it
- 3 : i'm using this, they are really student friendly
- optus : only have iPhone 3G, not 3G[S]
- not sure about other provider
- you can always get from Apple store

4.4 Q: Is it expensive to use the 3G or Edge data when I have no data package?
A: Yes, mobile data IS expensive

4.5 Q: I don't like iPhone, I want to get those latest Sony, nokia phones which are yet to available in Malaysia
A: No, please, i'm serious here. SE, Nokia, Samsung, or LG phones are not worth the bucks for the contract
- it's really expensive for us Malaysians, even more than iPhone 3G[S] contracts
- they are network locked
- Malaysia is cheaper on the electronic's GST, and no network locks.
- if you're planning for RRP, forget it, it's really expensive, and they are not that updated as you think they are..

4.6 Yes, you can still buy phones RRP else where, but not Handphone Shops as in Malaysia. However, they are still network locked.

4.7 Those phones which are not network locked are VERY RARE, and are mostly phones which has no value for the network provider to even bother setting up the lock.

5.0 Power
Malaysia and Australia share the same power rate, so don't worry about trashing your electronic appliances.
The rate is :
Input: AC 100-240V/ 50-60Hz/ 100mA

5.1 Q: are the power heads the same
A: No, they aren't
this is their power head

5.2 Q: So should I bring a bunch of converters as I have my laptop, phone charger, camera charger, my speaker, my external harddisk..........
A: You can, why not, but here's my suggestion, get only 1 converter, and bring a big extension, 1 to 4 , 1 to 5 as you like, but at least, you only need ONE converter instead of 1 for each appliance you are bringing.
